My latest book, THE ARDENNES ON FIRE, was published on March 2 2010. It details the intensive preparations the Germans conducted prior to launching the tremendous Ardennes counter offensive of December 1944. Then, it examines each and every parameter of the very first day of the German onslaught on December 16 1944. In order to retell the story in the most dynamic and spectacular way possible, I draw upon great numbers of sources, including many first hand accounts. Keep in mind, I not only talk about the beginning of this awesome military campaign itself, I also spend a great deal of time analyzing the planning and preparations leading up to it as well. There have been countless books written on the "BATTLE OF THE BULGE", however, few tend to concentrate upon the mammoth undertaking the Germans went through just to, first, rebuild their forces on the Western Front, and then second, mass together enough forces to launch the audatious assault in the first place. This is one of the main reasons why I chose to undertake this project in the first place. I tend to be the type of historian that is fascinated by how great historical events occurred, as well as why.

My book not only chronicles the events leading up to and through December 16 1944, I also show in precise detail, just how devastating the entire Normandy campaign was for the German Army on the Western Front, [Westeer] as it was termed. I actually go out of the way to isolate particular German military units such as the 12th S.S. Panzer [Hitler Youth] Division, and document what their exact strength was on June 6 1944, and then what it ended up being on the first of September after the harrowing retreat from the Falaise Pocket. This gives the reader great insight into the depth and degree of the shellacking the Germans took during the long, devastating summer of 1944. I then spend a great deal of time and energy describing how the Germans managed to pull off a miracle in the West by rebuilding their once shattered forces. This is one of the strongest portions of my book.

After describing Germany's amazing resurgence, I then take the reader inside the mind of Adolf Hitler, as he ponders a complete reversal of Germany's military fortunes. I describe why he decided to launch an all out attack in the first place. I also show why he chose the Western Front in General and the Ardennes Forest in particular. This will give the reader a much greater appreciation of the series of incredible events leading up to the desperate attack. Then, each German military formation being assembled for the grand assault is described in great detail. I conducted exhaustive research in this area, in order to provide the reader with pin point accuracy with regard to every tank, mortar, artillery piece, and small arm, of every division, both German and American, that would eventually tear into one other during this spectacular campaign. My book is a must read for any World War Two enthusiast and/or history buff. You won't be able to put this book down.
